In high-end architectural design, evaluating color rendering with legacy CRI Ra versus the advanced TM-30-18 (Rf & Rg) standard is essential for material authenticity. While standard CRI Ra90 can still distort saturated reds and wood grains, TM-30 fidelity (Rf) and gamut (Rg) provide accurate 99-sample spectral metrics.
1. Why Legacy CIE Ra Fails Modern Architecture
Established in 1965, the CIE Color Rendering Index (Ra) evaluates only 8 pastel reference samples (TCS 1–8). It completely omits strong saturated colors, notably saturated red (R9), rich yellow (R10), forest green (R11), and deep blue (R12).
