Canal Turn, Island Quarter, Nottingham

A collaboration with Jestico + Whiles and Studio Fractal to define a new district.

Canal Turn is the first phase of the 36-acre Island Quarter development to be completed. Opened in 2022, it includes two restaurants, a 200-capacity event hall, a state-of-the art outdoor stage and a 1000-capacity courtyard next to the canal.

Designed by architect firm Jestico and Whiles, Canal Turn pays homage to site’s past and the local businesspeople. For the lighting design, Jestico + Whiles brought in Studio Fractal, who specified Architape lighting solutions for the interior of the bar and restaurant, and the public realm exterior.

Architape Opaline IP67-rated LED luminaires were used for both the exterior lighting as well as around the bar area. The design called for a very warm white with a colour temperature of 2500K, to bring a cosy feel to the interior spaces and complement the red-brick exterior. With a wide range of available colour temperatures, from 2000K all the way up to 6500K, this was not an issue for our Opaline range.
