Crafting abstract flower-shaped pendant luminaires for Lily Nails Spa
When the acclaimed firm Design Clarity approached us to help realise their vision for the new Lily Nails Spa & Beauty in Westfield, White City, we knew it was a project that demanded a unique fusion of artistry and technical precision. Our challenge was to transform their stunning conceptual designs into three large-scale, abstract lily-shaped pendants, all against the demanding schedule of a high-profile retail fit-out.
Working in close collaboration, our project team coordinated with our external metal fabricator to bring the initial forms to life. The project's tight deadline necessitated a phase of rapid, intensive planning and design. The teams worked in parallel to ensure every detail was mapped out before manufacturing began.
The core of the pendants – the gracefully curved steel petals – were expertly formed by our fabrication partners. Once completed, they were transported to our own factory, where our in-house team undertook the critical final manufacturing and assembly.
The success of the design hinged on finding a lighting solution that was both powerful and incredibly discreet, able to trace the delicate curves of the petals without imposing on the form. We selected our Opaline Flex S Micro, a micro flexible COB (Chip-on-Board) LED tape. With its minimal 3 mm profile, exceptional flexibility, and high-quality, high-lumen output, it was the perfect choice. Our team meticulously formed and bonded the tape to the inner edges of the steel petals, which are all supported by a central hub mounted to the ceiling.
The result is a breathtaking centrepiece. The three pendants hang like luminous, abstract blossoms suspended in mid-air. Their glowing steel petals appear to unfurl, casting a soft, flattering light that transforms the salon into a serene, elegant haven. The light itself seems to bloom, creating a delicate interplay between industrial material and organic form that perfectly embodies the Lily brand. This project stands as a proud example of collaborative design and high-speed, precision manufacturing.
